Lustre is a recent venture born in Australia, out of friendship more than anything else. We didn’t plan it- it kind of found us. Juan and Dave have been friends for nearly 20 years. Both originally from Colombia, they moved to Australia in the late '90s.
Most of our careers have been spent in financial services, so getting into emeralds might seem like a big pivot. But in many ways, it’s a natural step. We’ve both run businesses before, and more importantly, we have deep roots and strong networks in Colombia, in Australia, and in many places in between.
Getting into the world of emeralds- one of Colombia’s most beautiful and iconic treasures- has been an exciting, inspiring journey. We're new to the industry, yet we’re learning fast. We’ve leaned on experts, taken courses, and visited the emerald-rich region of Boyacá, Colombia to understand where it all begins.
We’re proud of where we’ve come from and super excited about what’s ahead. Lustre is all about building meaningful relationships and working together across the entire supply chain.
Meet the co-founders
At Lustre, my purpose is to connect two countries I deeply love: Colombia and Australia. I was born and raised in Bogotá and spent the first 23 years of my life there. Home has been Sydney since 1999, and I’ve never looked back. I’m deeply grateful for the beautiful life Australia has given me.
Sourcing Colombian emeralds is my way of sharing a piece of Colombia’s magic with clients across Australia and the Asia Pacific. These gems carry stories, culture, and a sense of wonder that I feel honoured to pass along.
Every time someone encounters our brand—whether it's through seeing a piece, reading a story, or holding a gem—I want them to feel something: fascination, emotion, and the sense that they’re in the presence of something alive, precious, profound, and timeless.
